Weight Lifting Supplements

We’ve recommended a handful of our favorite weight lifting supplements here. There is a never-ending barrage of weight lifting supplements released every year, and the majority of what is promoted is trash. We believe good food is the #1 supplement for promoting awesome gains in the gym, and that’s why most of the supplements we recommend are, basically, just food.

Weight Lifting Supplements | Protein Powder

Protein is needed to build muscle, but it’s expensive to eat a wide variety of high quality protein sources, and sometimes just a pain in the ass to cook meat all the time and take it with you to work. That’s where protein powder comes in.  Everyone has their favorite, but we’re partial to a couple of brands that have awesome tasting shakes and use high quality protein.

weight lifting supplements wheyGold Standard Whey by Optimum Nutrition is a tried and true classic. It’s inexpensive, and one of the best tasting powders on the market. The vanilla ice cream flavor is a favorite and really tastes like vanilla ice cream. Chocolate is another great choice too.  The price per gram of protein is almost unbeatable and the taste makes you look forward to your shakes.  This is great to use as a snack in between meals or just as a drink with oatmeal  and fruit in the morning. One of our favorite  weight lifting supplements. Click here to buy now.

weight lifting supplements milkMuscle Milk is another really popular protein supplement, and for good reason. Their chocolate flavored powders and shakes taste like a chocolate milk but somehow have no fat and no carbs.

The 24-pack of shakes are incredibly useful to take with you on the road to make sure you’ve got some protein with you at all times.  A nice blend of milk proteins and casein, this is a good drink to take before bed and let the protein get digested slowly while you sleep. Click here to buy now.

Weight Lifting Supplements | Pre/Post Workout

Recovery shakes are one of the best weight lifting supplements you can buy.  By now you’ve probably heard about how your body is primed to build muscle during a window of time right after you workout. Legitimate research has shown that if you take a mixture of protein and carbs right after you workout, you can flip a muscle building switch that can increase the speed of your recovery and gains.  There are a lot of these products on the market right now, but one of the most important ingredients to look for is something called hydrolyzed whey protein. It’s more expensive than whey isolate, and you won’t find it in many lesser quality shakes, which is why we like the one below.

Weight Lifting Supplements | Snacks

If you’re on the go often and don’t have a lot of time to prepare meals and eat as well as you should, it makes sense to buy some snacks to hold you over and resist the temptation of eating whatever junk you have lying around.  That’s why we like this snack:

weight lifting supplements paleoPaleo Pack – If you keep up with the latest research on food, you might have heard of something called grass-fed beef.  It’s proven to contain more healthy omega fats (like fish oil), CLA, and a host of other positive benefits. Who knew beef is actually good for you if the cows don’t eat unnatural corn diets? These snacks also has nuts and dried cranberries in there for a nice flavorful mixture of healthy proteins, fats, and vitamins. Click here to buy now.

We may add more weight lifting supplements later on, but these are some of our favorites that we personally use.
